MEDICAL ASSISTANT
(MA)
Medical Assistants work in outpatient or ambulatory care settings such as medical offices or clinics. MAs are instrumental in helping patients feel at ease and assisting licensed providers in the healthcare setting. Medical assistants are cross-trained to perform administrative and clinical duties and are responsible for obtaining the patient’s medical history. Many times, Medical Assistants are the first point of contact with patients and are responsible for updating medical histories and contact information in patient files.
The job of medical assistant is attractive for people wanting to go into the medical field but are looking for a Monday through Friday job during the day.
Job Duties
- Read and follow written and oral medical orders from physicians
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and diverse patient populations
- Provide basic patient care as ordered
- Administer medication and treatments as ordered within the scope of practice
- Assist other healthcare professionals in performing exams, diagnostic procedures and treatments as well as minor medical procedures.
Education/Licensure Requirements
- Successful completion of medical assistant program or proof of registration or certificate required
- One year of experience as a medical assistant preferred
- Current BLS training required (can be obtained at PMC)
