SPECIAL PROCEDURES TECHNICIAN
A Special Procedure Technician operates specialized medical diagnostic imaging equipment used to help diagnose illnesses. This equipment creates images of a patient’s internal tissues, bones and organ systems.
A Special Procedure Technician works with high-tech X-Ray, CT and MRI scan units, and works with patients who have been admitted to the hospital as well as those scheduled on an outpatient basis.
Special Procedure Techs have the same basic education as Radiologic Technologists, but have obtained additional training to operate more complex imaging equipment.
Job Duties
- Operate specialized medical imaging equipment including X-Ray, CT and MRI scan units to perform clinical diagnostic procedures as directed
- Provide radiological care to patients for the purpose of diagnosis and/or treatment of certain injuries or health conditions
- Follow instructions from physicians regarding which area of the patient’s body needs imaging
- Correctly position the patient and adjust the imaging equipment to the specified position
- Administer contrast materials
Education/Licensure Requirements
- Associate degree from Accredited Radiologic Technology Program required
- ARRT Certification required
- Kentucky State Certification required
- Current CPR Certification (can be obtained at PMC)
