CERTIFIED PHLEBOTOMIST
Phlebotomists are essential members of the patient care team and works closely with other phlebotomists, nurses and physicians to interact with patients of all ages to retrieve blood samples for further lab analysis. They are also tasked with labeling samples appropriately and logging all information related to tests performed and samples taken into a database.
Phlebotomists possess a knowledge of medical terminology, human anatomy and lab testing. They are detail- oriented and exhibit exceptional interpersonal skills and are committed to providing a positive patient experience.
Job Duties
- Perform phlebotomy (venipuncture, finger stick, arterial) according to established procedures
- Distribute specimens to appropriate laboratory sections for testing/processing
- Reassure anxious patients through good communication skills
- Assist laboratory technicians in organizing and testing lab samples
Education/Licensure Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Formal phlebotomy training and certification by national accreditation agency required
- Current BLS training required. (can be obtained at PMC)
